Is there a way around this? Hello Ryan, Most Non-Genuine issues look the same, the best way to be sure what the core cause is and therefore what fix will help that particular issue would be to create your own thread and post a Diagnostic Report.

Fantastic FIX!!!!! With the problems I have been having on my Vaio since I upgraded this little gem has stopped me from wiping vist and going back to XP. Lid now works like a charm!!
I have also only just managed to get the shortcut buttons working, but it seem's to be intermittant, sometimes they work and sometimes Have the same problem with brand new just 5 days from the store Acer Aspire sleep button and closing the lid works properly just once in 10 times, although BIOS is even more recent v2.
The only time the close lid and sleep or hybernation functions worked was right after video drivers were reinstalled or just a few seconds after reboot. For me it looks like Vista somehow disables the right drivers or not using them properly. Then above functions fails on my notebook, hard drive and monitor shuts down, but power button still had light on it and after that no keys are working and only hard reboot can help. I was ready to return notebook to the store and was going try to exchange it for a different brand, but I can see this problem persists for all kinds of notebooks - from the cheapest to most expensive.
Or at least aknowlege you have it! At my opinion such driver or BIOS compatibility problems should have been addressed by Microsoft way before Vista was released and became a mandatory OS for all new computers. Hi all However, with Vista, the screen stays off. The only way I can get the screen back is to crash the machine by holding down the power switch. Now, I think it must be said that it is a common issue with Vista that many have a problem when the machine goes into 'sleep' as set in the power management profiles.
Now I can see an 'uncorrupted' screen. I hope this helps someone, but all I can say right now is that when XP came out, drivers were a major problem too. Right now, I have no issues with Vista except for the 'sleep' and the 'screen switch'.
I can live with those and I'm sure that one day someone smart enough will sort it out. Cheers to all and I'll keep looking too. Closing the lid just shuts the screen off, so everything is still running. If I open it, it doesn't turn the screen on. I am running Vista Home Premium, and this is really annoying, the trick works, but hopefully Microsoft will do something to fix this. I have another solution to fix this problem. I too had the same problem on a new dell inspiron with vista prem. Dell support tried the sane with the volume driver but that wasn't stable and after getting bored waiting for them i thought i would investigate it myself.
Solution of my own was to disable the request for password on wake. Dell came back and said waiting on microsoft to sort driver out. So thats where I'm at. Not sure but must be some kind of authority or permisssion problem don't you all think.
Hi all.. I have heard or read somewhere that Microsoft is looking at this issue of terminal sleep with Vista, and I have not been successful in changing the ACP Lid driver. I have found that I can tell the system not to sleep when the lid is closed.
The screen turns off when the lid is closed and turns back on when opened. It services my purpose for now but the idea as I believe it to be is that when the machine is put into sleep, all info is placed in memory and everything else is shutdown or in a reduced power state allowing near instant recommencement of use. I have not tried the hybernate option and may post later after doing so, but below is what I set to achieve lid-closing without seizure.
Like I said, this currently is ok for me actually, when I was running XP, this is what it did anyway. I have exactly the same problem with lid I close screen -- it never comes back again I'll try the ACPI lid hack suggested here earlier and will let you know. Everything else works just fine.. Vista seems to be really stable, eventhough there are some noticable bugs already. Now, that lid problem is solved, but I have another one speaker output won't work on my laptop! Can anyone help here?
So, I guess this has to do with Vista, is it some kind of bug? And plus during boot Vaio has this boot sound I can hear boot sound through my headphones. You should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS. In some situations, this error may cause the computer to function incorrectly. I solved sound issue, but lid is still there. So, I performed System Restore - didn't help. I've tried four wddm driver for go.. I had the same problem.
Could you please clarify what to do once you get to that point? Only reason I'm trying to restore it to where it was is that I just got a Blue Screen Help please!!! I am using hp notebook PC and windows XP and also facing the same problem. Can anyone help me how to get out from this issue. I'm convinced this is why the screen problems continue, why power management doesn't function properly, why I can't see the estimated remaining battery time left only the percentage of battery left , and why battery life is ultimately pathetic with my Sony Vaio VGN-FE FYI, that didn't work either, and I just lost a day of my life waiting for the restoration.
Bios Update again please. Graphics driver update again please. Please resolve the ACPI error. There are no device conflicts and everything works well, except resume from hibernation. All patches and latest updates from Microsoft have been installed. Can anybody help further. I have a big problem, switched of my laptop last night and this morning when starting up it starts loading and than the screen goes black and stays black no going to windowsVista, i'm having to do a hard reboot and to enable me to go to WIndows i have to go under Safe Mode, my laptop specs are as follows;.
Infact it is the only old driver which it provides. I dunno whether this will work for all but it sure has hell stopped all my problems, I can now shut the lid and my Acer Ferrari goes into hibernation mode in like 3 seconds flat and wakes in the same time also. All i have to do is switch off the wireless before i shut the lid very simple on the Acer coz its a big orange button on the front of the machine!
I really dont know how many other machines this will work on. Acer use Broadcom wireless adaptors and I am going to assume that this is where the problem lies.
I have tested this like 45 times continuously and it did not fail once then just out of interest I left it wireless switched on and shut the lid I installed Vista Ultimate on it and since then having this lid problem. She also added that they are not responsible for any errors that may be caused by this so-far 'evil' Ultimate edition, and she said that they don't have drivers for it.
What I don't get is - is there really a difference between Business edition and Ultimate editoin of Vista, that Sony says it doesn't support Ultimate yet? Aren't drivers supposed to be the same for both?! Like for XP - home and pro both had same drivers. Anyway I picked up this dv I'm on now, from an old customer. Cheaper to replace than repair….
I have this fully loaded running Home Premium 64 bit. Web cam works, card reader works, audio, graphics are beautiful! All drivers from HP installed with help and libraries etc. Can't stand dust on my LCD! Sorry so long winded, Mike…. I would be sooooooo happy if somebody could help to solve the problem! Technical guys from HP changed "defective" motherboard and some other "defective" stuff, but I guess they just had to write something in their repair blank as the problem is still there!!!
But after a while the problem came back. I used the same drivers for al 4 laptops, Vista SP1 x32 is up to date as well as the laptop's Bios. Please can you provide Microsft's current position on this problem. As you will see from the thread, after you posted your comments, everyone concluded it was a Vista problem and devised a driver-swap to solve it. Thank you for contacting HP Chat.

I got this problem on a Dell Latitude E and found a Vista solution to restore Hibernation but another issue involved a Disk Cleanup setting where it was enabled to perform teh disk cleanup while in standby.

Good luck! Thursday, February 1, PM. I would recommend doing the following: 1. Which leave us with the OS. At least it's how I see it I'm a student of the Computer Engineering course :P I know it's troublesome to solve this type of bugs, but probably it's solution has something to do with the actions of waking up from sleep mode when it refreshes the graphic card, or initializes it.
Cheers : Pedro. Friday, February 9, AM. I was searching for an answer today, and found you people have the same problem like me. If it's of any help, I've got a HP Pavilion dvea. With a GeForce Go Hope someone figures out how to fix this. If I do, I'll come and tell you folks ; Greatz Rino. Saturday, February 10, AM. When i open it up again i just see black screen. Please help.
Thanks using Windows Vista Business. Saturday, February 10, PM. Computer is still running you can hear music and instant messenger sounds and such but the screen is gone.
The best I've done for now is set my power button to do Sleep command, and put my laptop to sleep and unsleep and then the screen comes back. Help us Microsoft :. Monday, February 12, AM. I have exactly the same problem!
I have updated the drivers twice, once from Windows Update and finally from Sony. I have also updated the BIOS. Monday, February 12, PM. How in the world did such a widespread bug make it through Microsoft's 'extensive' testing over the last year?
I installed Vista and noticed this on day two. Also using new nvidia drivers. I've also noticed if I put the notebook in standby the screen doesn't come back on until I wake it, close the lid, and re-open. Tuesday, February 13, AM. Wednesday, February 14, PM. How did you create a sleep button? I have a few custom shortcut buttons on my vaio, but I don't see any way to activate them in vista.
I have just been hitting the windows key to open the start menu, arrow-right to select sleep, and hit enter. Then when the power goes off I hit the power button to wake it back up. Takes about 30 - 45 seconds altogether, but it's still better than shutting down and starting up. I am using forceWare May be that helps in your invastiagtions. I have a "feeling" that it is related to patch KB Thursday, February 15, AM. Well I know I had the xp up-to-date with regards to service packs before the Vista install - when was the update you are suspecting released?
I was able to install the sony utilities and now am getting a response from the brightness controls, but still don't seem to be able to find a way to access the vyyo setup interface from vista. I can even browse to the folder the utilities installed in and have confirmed that the processes are running, but the custom S1 and S2 buttons are not responding and don't appear to be configurable. I didn't find the software on the link that Andrew Provided, but found it at sony support under the "original" section for software for the VGN-FEP.
If I remember correctly, they were available in the control panel before. Thursday, February 15, PM. Also intermitten problems saying your video card driver stopped working and failures to run Windows AERO occur insted. If I look back at it it was better before Back again..
As for making shortcut buttons, I guess it's for our convenience to help us cope, but it's fine if you can navigate the start menu to sleep for you as well. Regardless, we shouldn't even have to be doing this to begin with. Sunday, February 18, AM. I couldn't agree more. I'm just glad I haven't lost any data during a hard-shutdown when windows key-right arrow-enter didn't put my notebook in sleep mode.
Considering the delays we've all had to deal with and the extensive amount of time that Vista has been available to companies like ATI and Nvidia for compatibility testing, it is ridiculous and inexcusable that such a fundamental flaw go unfixed, especially now that Vista is out on the market for a few weeks.
Even worse, Microsoft has pulled XP off the shelves and is only allowing manufacturers like Dell to supply Vista. How can you shove something in front of everyone that has so many obvious problems?
Seems like a very bad business decision to me. Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
If you can't access the desktop If you do not have access to the Start Button: 1 Login to Vista and click the option that brings up Internet Explorer.
